3. Buspirone (Buspar)
Buspar is the newest addition to the list of anxiety medications. This new drug acts just like the benzodiazepine tranquilizer group but has lesser side effects and a decreased potential for being habit-forming and addictive.
4. Beta-blockers
Beta-blockers are a used as maintenance drugs in the treatment of hypertension and other cardiac-related diseases. As a treatment for anxiety, beta-blockers decrease the sympathetic nervous system effects of anxiety on the body such as sweating and rapid heartbeat.
