Exposure therapy is a psychological treatment for patients with panic attacks. Patients undergo psychology therapy in order to make the patient immune to the things that cause them to panic. As a result, when the patient encounters these stressful things in their environment such as pressure from work, they will be available to cope with it. This will result to the avoidance of panicking whenever the patient experiences such stress. The purpose of exposure therapy is to decrease a person’s fearful reactions from experiencing too much anxiety. There are different types of exposure therapy treatment for a patient suffering from panic attacks.
First is the Patient-Directed Exposure Therapy. Treatments for panic attacks differ from person to person since all people have various kinds of personalities. This is the reason why exposure treatments differ depending on the patient’s personality. Next is the Group Exposure Therapy where in a patient is grouped with other people suffering from the same disorder in order to share their feelings of anxiety with each other. Last is the Therapist-Assisted Exposure in where the therapist helps the patient cope up with his panic attacks.
