			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We can all use a little pick me up sometimes. If you want to figure out what will improve and strengthen your mental health, focus on the techniques that work well for you. It doesn’t have to take much, so see how you can incorporate some of these into your life.</p>
<p>
 1.    Learn How to Meditate: Never underestimate the power of relaxation, and this is a perfect example. If you can learn to embrace the power of meditation and figure out how to tune out the outside world and focus instead on your breathing and relaxation, you will be in control of your mental health. This is a first and very important step to good strong mental health.</p>
<p>
 2.    Stay Organized: Many people get stressed out or feel overwhelmed because they don’t have the necessary tools and techniques in place to stay organized. If you can learn to stay ahead of your tasks and manage potential stress in this manner, you will maintain the picture of good mental health.</p>
<p>
 3.    Talk It Out: Having the ability to communicate effectively is an excellent way to be in control of your mental health. Not only being able to constructively talk through your problems, but also talking to those close to you when you need a lift can do wonders for your mental state. Talk it out when all else fails because sometimes communication is the key to overall happiness.</p>
<p>
 4.    Volunteer Your Time: There is something truly to be said about giving back to your community in some capacity. Giving to others can make you feel good and can in turn make you feel mentally stronger. Therefore find opportunities to get involved through a church, a shelter, or any other community body that requires help in some capacity. This can help you to do something productive with your time and ultimately help you to feel better all around.</p>

 5.    Burn Some Calories: The last thing you may feel like doing when you’re down and out is to jump on a treadmill, but exercise is good for your mental health as well as your physical well being. Not only do you gain energy, but you also release endorphins which will help you to feel good. You will leave your workout feeling stronger and happier, as you’ve had a chance to clear your head.</p>
<p>
 6.    Treat Yourself: Avoid the common objection that you don’t have time or money, and find a way to treat yourself to something truly special. It can be something as simple as a bath or something like a day at the spa. It matters not what you do, so long as it’s special and valuable to you. Take some time out of your busy schedule and treat yourself, you’ll be amazed at how good it makes you feel.</p>
<p>
 7.    Write It Down: There is great power in writing down your thoughts. Keeping a journal of the ups and downs can be an excellent outlet, and can contribute to strong mental health. If you write it down, sometimes it serves as a way of getting it out and it’s your own private escape.</p>
<p>
 Sometimes it doesn’t take much to work on your mental health. These easy and effective methods can allow you to gain strong mental health, but don’t have to cost you much financially or otherwise. Try them out and see just how much better you feel!</p>

A lot of us experience anxiety some time in our lives, but for about five per cent of people it&#8217;s so severe and persistent and contols most of their daily life.<br/><br/>Anxiety and panic attacks, are some of the most common psychological disorders and affect women more often than men, they are more common than you think.<br/><br/>If you have this disorder, you may think that drugs are the only option to treat anxiety attacks. Medication can relieve some of the symptoms of anxiety, but it doesn’t cure the underlying problem and it’s usually not a long-term solution. Anxiety drugs also come with side effects and safety concerns, such as the risk of<br/><br/>addiction. Many anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines work by reducing brain activity, this leads to side effects beyond anxiety relief. It is not quite possible for you to fight this problem all by yourself. The amount of panic you will experience and the symptoms may get more severe if you do not seek help for these attacks of panic problems. You will need to call a professional from health care and receive help for panic attacks.<br/><br/>The first thing you need to do in seeking panic help is to get an appointment with the medical doctor who generally treats you. Your doctor will enquire about the symptoms that you are experiencing and also the frequency of the panic attacks. The doctor will gather information regarding your psychological symptoms. You will also need to inform the doctor about your physical symptoms when you are experiencing these panic attacks. It is very important to inform the doctor in detail about your physical reactions to the attacks. This will let the doctor know what the cause of your panic attacks is. It may be due to psychological or medical disorder.<br/><br/>Make a list of all the medications you use for your doctor. Some medications have side effects which may cause nervousness, restlessness, anxiety and other symptoms of panic attacks. It is therefore necessary for your doctor to get to know what the cause of your attack is.<br/><br/>You may need to take a blood test if your doctor has a feeling that it may be due to a medical problem. If certain medications are causing your attacks, your doctor may advise you to change your medications.<br/><br/>Prozac, Xanax or Zoloft are certain medications the doctor may put down for you if he or she thinks that the cause for your attacks may be a result of psychological disorder. If you have more severe attacks the doctor will pass you further for more help in panic attacks. You may be referred to a therapist or a psychiatrist.<br/><br/>A psychiatrist will prescribe psychotropic medication and will also keep a look out for your side effects and symptoms. He will change the medications if he needs to do it. You will have to try out a few medications before your psychiatrist realizes what works best for you. It may take a month to be able to see the whole effects of this medication.<br/><br/>Your psychiatrist or your medical doctor will refer you to a therapist for getting help for these attacks. The therapist will work with you and find out the level of anxiety that you will feel that causes the panic attacks. Yeah, this is about that nasal spray you sniff – and your social phobia is gone!<br/><br/>If you haven’t heard about this “latest and greatest” <strong>social anxiety cure</strong> yet, let me regurgitate the news in brief. It all started when scientists from Zurich University found that people who inhaled the hormone called oxytocin continued to trust strangers even after they were cheated on. That discovery, they say, could lead to future <strong>treatments for social phobia</strong>.  It didn’t take long for a long-sales-letter type websites to appear selling the new wonder drug:<br/><br/><strong>oxytocin.</strong><br/><br/>It has been called “the love hormone“, “the cuddle chemical”, &#8220;the mind reading hormone&#8221; and “the trust drug”.<br/><br/>And for a reason.<br/><br/>It’s the chemical that makes you feel what you’re feeling during an ******. It is also produced during labor and it’s responsible for the unique and unbreakable mother-child bond. When your brain is releasing oxytocin, you feel loved, relaxed and more open to trust – not only friends and lovers, but also strangers.<br/><br/>The Zurich University’s study has found that oxytocin has a very specific effect in social situations: it seems to diminish fears. Lead researcher Dr Thomas Baumgartner thinks that a lack of oxytocin is at least one of the <strong>causes for the fear experienced by social phobics.</strong><br/><br/>Brain scans show that oxytocin can lower activity in the amygdala &#8211; a region of brain that is responsible for feelings of fear and apprehension – and which is overactive in <strong>social phobics</strong>.  So, yes – it’s true: a sniff of oxytocin could improve readiness to engage in social interactions for people who suffer from social anxiety disorder by simply making them less fearful.<br/><br/>Then again, there are other things you can sniff to increase your <strong>confidence in social situations</strong>… Lots and lots of people who don’t have social phobia consume alcohol for the same reason.<br/><br/>The problem is, such substances are indiscriminate in their effects: uncritical trust can be just as damaging as irrational avoidance.<br/><br/>Will this new drug heal us or kill us…?<br/><br/><em>By: anita bern</em> (<strong><a href='http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/free-ebook.html'>Get FREE Anxiety Treatment</a></strong>)<br/><br/><strong>About the Author:</strong>

Now that I am cured from my panic attacks and anxiety disorders this looking backward this was all a bit of a shock.<br/><br/>Before fixing myself I was addicted to constantly checking myself, this means checking if I had anything on my face or shirt. This is what anxiety sufferers tend to do most days, especially out in public. Also I would perpetually ascertaining your pulse rate, your heart rate, feeling for lumps and bumps, and so forth. And perpetually inquiring myself if I was feeling apprehensive, or feeling close to a panic attack.<br/><br/>I was dependant on all that stuff &#8211; addicted and it became an uncontrolled bad habit.<br/><br/>When I recognised this, I began reading articles/books, basically anything I could get my hands on regarding subject’s dependency / bad habits. Unlike adults, the treatment options available for children suffering from anxiety disorders are very limited. This is especially true in case of anti-anxiety medication.<br/><br/>Somehow, anti-anxiety medication is not compatible with children. The same medication that is successfully used to treat anxiety disorders in adults is not precribed for children suffering from the same problems.<br/><br/>1. Prescribed Only if Necessary<br/><br/>The National Institue of Mental Health has cautioned physicians to exercise great care in prescribing anti-anxiety medication for children. As far as possible, other types of therapy should be tried, and usually, doctors prescribe such safer theraphies instead of anti-anxiety medication for children. If medication is absolutely necessary, the doctor is required to carefully weigh the pros and cons of the treatment.<br/><br/>It should be borne in mind that children don&#8217;t respond to anti-anxiety medication as well as adults. This is because the bodies of young children are contantly growing and developing and, therefore, react in different ways to medication.<br/><br/>Even in cases where medication is prescribed for children, the dosage will be different. If addictive drugs are prescribed, doctors usually monitor the young patient carefully for as long as he or she is under medication. Usually, doctors urge younger patients to take other types of therapy, such as psychotherapy, which is much more safer.<br/><br/>Although most doctors prefer to treat young children suffering from anxiety disorders without medication, intense cases might require medication. In such cases, medication that has been successful used to treat anxiety disorders in children is available.<br/><br/>In case a child is not compatible with any of the medication commonly prescribed for adults, doctors could prescribe drugs such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs.<br/><br/>2. Commonly Prescribed Drugs<br/><br/>In cases where drugs have to prescribed for a child, the National Institute of Mental Health has recommended the use of the following drugs that have proved to be very effective as anti-anxiety medication for children.<br/><br/>Anafranil is used in cases of children aged ten and above to treat obsessive compulsive disorder.<br/><br/>Luvox, an SSRI, is used in treating obsessive compulsive disorder in cases of children aged eight and above.<br/><br/>Tofranil is used for six-year-olds, usually for the problem of bed wetting.<br/><br/>Zoloft, an SSRI, has been successfully used in cases of children aged six and above to treat obsessive compulsive disorder.<br/><br/>If a child does not respond favorably to anti-anxiety medication, doctors will have to design the best blend of medication that will be of help to the child. Not the ones who are suffering, but the ones who think it&#8217;s a fake illness or who think it&#8217;s brought on by the sufferer. This is not an act. Nobody wants to be like this.<br/><br/>A Panic Attack On The Oprah Show<br/><br/>Jonathan Knight actually had a panic attack on the show. However, just the casual observer of my life would have never known it. I managed to do my job, love my wife and feed the dog. But inside was a whole different story.<br/><br/>My life was filled with anxiety from as young as I can remember. It was second nature to me, to be anxious about everything, even things that didn&#8217;t seem to bother others. The minor anxieties that most people get over or face, seem to be life debilitating to me. Things like swimming, reading aloud in front of people, visiting a doctor, flying. Even saying my name in front of a group was more than I could bear and my voice would tremble.  <br/><br/>However when I did experience my first panic attack right after I turned 40, fear took on a whole new meaning for me during that time. I became a terrified individual that didn&#8217;t care to live like that. Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I did want to live but not like that. That&#8217;s when I knew there had to be something better than what the doctor was offering me.  <br/><br/>But to avoid boring you with a story of my life, I will cut to the chase and answer my own question from above. YES. Yes, there is a cure for panic attacks. I can&#8217;t speak for cures that I&#8217;ve never tried for ailments that I&#8217;ve never had. But I can speak for this problem. And I will speak to anyone that will listen. <br/><br/>I don&#8217;t want anyone to go through this ordeal when it&#8217;s just not necessary to suffer from panic. I can&#8217;t believe my doctor knew nothing about this or was unwilling to get involved. Instead he just tried to get me on a prescription of Zoloft and told me that others lived with panic attacks too and that I wasn&#8217;t alone. Can you believe that? Well maybe you can if you&#8217;ve been in that situation. But thankfully I&#8217;m a stubborn person when someone tells me something can&#8217;t be done. I thanked my doctor and left his office with the feeling that the cure was out there and I just had to find it. <br/><br/>I can tell you that it wasn&#8217;t an overnight cure for me but it was close enough. Within 30 days, my attacks were gone and so was the fear. In fact once you learn how to end the fear through one simple step, the panic will end. Imagine that, no more panic attacks.  Once you realize that panic attacks are basically fear of fear, you are well on your way to the cure. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most often a Panic Attack will hit you at the most inconvenient moment possible.  It&#8217;s just the nature of the beast.  Maybe the Panic Attack will creep up on you slowly through a stressful day or maybe it will come out of nowhere and hit you like a ton of bricks.<br/><br/>No matter what the scenario, it&#8217;s rarely going to happen when you&#8217;re in a calm and soothing environment.<br/><br/>This article is going to show you an effective 3 Step Strategy for ending the Panic Attack within 5 minutes naturally.  The tactic you’re about to learn will work every time without fail, once you know exactly what to do.<br/><br/>I’m not just preaching these tips.  I’ve had quite  bit of history with panic and anxiety in the past.<br/><br/>In my experience with <a href="http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/anxiety-treatments/treatments-for-panic-attacks.html">Panic Attacks</a>, I&#8217;d usually be in the middle of some arbitrary, moderately stressful activity.  Phone calls at work became huge anxiety triggers for me.<br/><br/>There were times when I would have the attacks in the middle of work while I was on hold with a vendor or a client and I would just immediately have to hang up.<br/><br/>Sometimes I would be sound asleep and wake in the night with a pounding chest and numbness of the extremities. That&#8217;s called a Nocturnal Panic Attack.<br/><br/>On other occasions I would venture out of my apartment and in those few hours an attack would strike in the middle of a grocery store or while I was crossing the street.<br/><br/>Also, as you probably already know, the embarrassment from having the Panic Attack in front of others can heighten the symptoms of the attack.<br/><br/><strong>Panic Attacks, especially for those who are new to them, are EXTREMELY frightening.</strong> To put it simply, it can feel like you&#8217;re going to die. Of course that&#8217;s not what&#8217;s really happening to your body, but many first time Panic Attack sufferers will describe the event saying:<br/><br/>&#8220;It felt like I was dying&#8230;&#8221;<br/><br/>You literally feel that you don&#8217;t have control over your body. Your extremities go numb, your adrenaline is racing, your head spins &#8212; Really there&#8217;s a whole host of symptoms that you begin to experience.<br/><br/>Let&#8217;s just quickly go over some of them below. <strong>What I&#8217;m about to teach you will make a whole lot more sense when you see the symptoms laid out.</strong><br/><br/>The symptoms  of a panic attack include…<br/><br/> Hyperventilation  Dizziness  An uncontrollable, rising sense of panic (terror, fear, anxiety)  Light Headiness  Heart Palpitations  Chest Pains  Dry Mouth  Clammy Hands  Numbness of the extremities  Difficulty Swallowing  Tremors  Sweating  Weakness  Fatigue  Urgent need to go to the bathroom  <br/><br/> <br/><br/>Now what I want to address right away is how closely many of these symptoms correspond to the symptoms of a heart attack.  When you’re having a panic attack, your chest is POUNDING.  It feels like it’s just going to pop out of your sternum.<br/><br/>So immediately, for most panic attack sufferers, they assume they’re having some kind of heart attack and that leads to the ultimate terror that they’re dying.<br/><br/>This downward spiral of fear is what feeds the attack and leads the symptoms to escalate further.<br/><br/>So up until now I&#8217;ve just told you about the chaos of an attack. It&#8217;ll happen when you don&#8217;t expect it at an inconvenient moment. You won&#8217;t understand immediately what&#8217;s happening to your body. It&#8217;s extremely frightening and there&#8217;s a whole bunch of other uncomfortable stuff you&#8217;ll be experiencing after the panic sets it. Sound like fun so far?<br/><br/>Yeah, I&#8217;m not too satisfied with that scenario either&#8230;So <strong>let&#8217;s fight back with techniques that WORK!</strong><br/><br/>For all the reasons listed above, <strong>you&#8217;ll need to know the Panic Attack self defense techniques</strong> I&#8217;m about to show you. They&#8217;re easy to apply during an attack and they work like a charm in ANY Panic Attack situation.<br/><br/>Step 1 : Recognizing the Attack<br/><br/>The first trick is the hardest for some. <strong>You must recognize the attack.</strong> Sounds easy enough, but when your anxiety was as bad as mine was, I was telling myself:<br/><br/>&#8220;Oh no, not this one. This one is for real. My heart is finally going to pop from all these attacks. My body can&#8217;t take anymore. I feel myself dying&#8221; and so on.<br/><br/>It was devastating. And it&#8217;s that negative thought process and depressive attitude that feeds and escalates the attack.<br/><br/>So step 1 is recognize the attack. Know that it IS a panic attack and <strong>people don&#8217;t die from panic attacks.</strong> It&#8217;s that simple. Believe it. The utmost belief of this fact is where the power lies.<br/><br/>It may take you a minute or two to convince yourself. However, if it&#8217;s not your first Panic Attack, then you should be confident in identifying what&#8217;s happening to your body and mind.<br/><br/>Step 2 : Breath and Count<br/><br/>Next your going to start counting. Ignore everything around you. Nothing else matters. Get through this. That&#8217;s ALL that matters.<br/><br/>After you&#8217;ve recognized the attack, begin to count in your head. Count 1,2,3,4 &#8212; 1,2,3,4 &#8212; 1,2,3,4 pausing on the dashes and so on. Now you might be thinking:<br/><br/>&#8220;Hey, that&#8217;s easier said than done. When I&#8217;m having an attack I can&#8217;t even think.&#8221;<br/><br/>That&#8217;s why you&#8217;re not going to say or even think the numbers. <strong>You&#8217;re going to breath the numbers.</strong><br/><br/>Take a deep breath in through your nose for the 1 and 2. Then take a deep breath out through your mouth for the 3 and 4. Practice this routine for a few minutes a day until it becomes an automated exercise for you.<br/><br/>Practicing really helps a lot. If you practice in a controlled environment, when a Panic Attack hits, this self-defense mechanism will seem routine.<br/><br/> <br/><br/><strong>Important:</strong><br/><br/>If you are truly hyperventilating out of control when the Panic Attack hits, breathing into a paper bag will help you get to the point where you can begin this exercise. Once you have regained some control of your breathing, <strong>remove the paper bag and begin the Counting Technique.</strong><br/><br/>When you go into these breathing exercises you immediately shift your brain&#8217;s focus from fear to action. You take control of your body and all the symptoms with this one important step.<br/><br/>  <br/><br/><strong>Here&#8217;s why this Step is so important&#8230;</strong><br/><br/>Remember before when I said it was important to list out the Panic Attack symptoms?<br/><br/>Well by now I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;re familiar with many of the symptoms. That&#8217;s not why I laid them out above.<br/><br/>I listed the symptoms above to illustrate a very important point. <strong>Panic Attack symptoms occur as a chain reaction to the offset of breathing that happens in the body.</strong><br/><br/>When a Panic Attack hits, shortness of breath or hyperventilation kicks in. The change in oxygen intake is what causes the dizziness and light headiness.<br/><br/>When those symptoms kick in, your fear escalates. Your body goes into &#8220;emergency mode&#8221; and begins conserving blood flow and the circulation of oxygen. This leads to the numbness in your extremities.<br/><br/>All this time, further panic has been setting in and your heart beats have become stronger as your brain reaches a higher sense of urgency.<br/><br/>The symptoms go on and on but my main point here is that it all starts with controlled breathing.<br/><br/>Do NOT overlook your breathing in the fight against Panic Attacks. It is an absolutely essential tool.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>Step 3 : Finding the Root Cause<br/><br/>The calming down step is perhaps just as important as Step 2. Panic Attacks are traumatic. Soon after an attack, your mind catches up to what has just happened and a real emotional rollercoaster sets in.<br/><br/>You begin to question your stability and how capable you are of handling the world around you.<br/><br/>If you&#8217;ve had an attack, it&#8217;s important to contact a therapist or doctor shortly after.<br/><br/>Don&#8217;t get me wrong here. I&#8217;m not telling you to commit yourself to years of therapy for one panic attack.<br/><br/>However, let&#8217;s be honest with eachother.<br/><br/>Panic Attacks don&#8217;t happen without reason. Something triggered the attack. It could be stress at work. It could be stress in a relationship. It could be a General Anxiety Disorder. Whatever the cause is&#8230;don&#8217;t ignore it.<br/><br/>Find a therapist or doctor you are comfortable with and begin exploring why your attack occurred. To help them cope up, there are many anxiety medicines that could be used together with other treatment forms.<br/><br/>Anxiety and stress related disorders are usually treated with anxiety medication together with self-help techniques, therapy and support. With the combined treatment, various types of anxiety are controlled and even cured. Serious conditions like post-traumatic stress ailments can also be curtailed with following the proper regimen of anxiety medication.<br/><br/>Anxiety medications can be broadly classified into two types &#8211; Antidepressants and Anti-anxiety medications. Both these can strongly curtail and lessen the anxiety symptoms in people.<br/><br/>Antidepressants such as Paxil and Zoloft are prescribed for the long-term management of anxiety related disorders. These drugs are a little slow to work and patients must use them strictly as directed by their doctor and should follow his instructions very carefully. These are extremely beneficial with collateral cognitive and behavioral therapy.<br/><br/>Anti-anxiety medications exhibit a rapid effect on acute symptoms. But they are usually addictive and possess depressant effects on patients. For lasting and overall treatment, other options are usually followed to relieve symptoms of anxiety over a long period.<br/><br/>Whereas anxiety medications are generally not designed to affect a cure or to put a stop to symptoms of anxiety, they control the symptoms to such an extent that the patients can take the benefit of other therapy forms as well. These other therapy forms for the anxiety disorder patients are Psychological therapy and Self-help.<br/><br/>Psychological therapy as the name suggests, consists of giving the patients cognitive and behavioral therapy tools to overcome their anxiety disorders. With the symptoms controlled with the help of medications, patients can concentrate on working on other long lasting techniques for keeping their anxiety symptoms at bay. More often than not, desensitization, positive thinking and many other techniques assist the patients survive the anxiety-triggering experiences.<br/><br/>Self-help consists of self-hypnosis, meditative therapy and relaxation techniques which assist the patients further to overcome their mental disturbances. As anxiety is a natural feeling which anyone can experience, it would be misleading to say that you can eliminate it forever. But make no mistake, a cure is possible.<br/><br/>And by cure I mean achieving a state which you no long have irrational fear, and is able to live the life you used to prior to being stuck with anxiety attack. This is what it means to be &#8220;cured&#8221; of anxiety attack.<br/><br/>However, take note that you cannot get rid of anxiety attack instantly. Just as Rome wasn&#8217;t built in a day, you cannot expect to be permanently rid of anxiety attack this very instant. The healing process is long and would take a substantial amount of time and it would be unwise to hold on to any thoughts of a &#8220;miracle cure&#8221;.<br/><br/><strong>So how do you go about &#8220;curing&#8221; anxiety attack?</strong><br/><br/>I am sure you know by now that you cannot experience a full blown anxiety attack constantly. Its not possible. Given enough time, the symptoms will fade away. In fact, you don&#8217;t experience the symptoms most of the time but you know that eventually, it will rear its ugly head and you would be helpless against it. So how do you stop it for good?<br/><br/>First of all, you have to learn to not fear anxiety attack. Accept it. Accept the fact that you have anxiety attack. Don&#8217;t run or hide from it. Don&#8217;t fear anxiety attack returning. This is the <strong>MOST</strong> important step.<br/><br/>No one can make you believe this fact. I can ask you not to fear anxiety and not to run from it but it won&#8217;t be of any use <strong>UNLESS</strong> you really believe in it. Only <strong>YOU</strong> can convince yourself of this fact. Things that you learn yourself through experience are far more embedded in you than the things your given freely.<br/><br/>Consider this fact. Despite all the horrible symptoms you went through during anxiety attack, did any of them come true? Did you actually have a heart attack (heart pounding madly)? Did you actually suffocate (difficulty in breathing)? Did you actually faint or die from it?<br/><br/><strong>NO!</strong><br/><br/>As you can see, the truth has been with you all along. Anxiety attack CANNOT harm you. You will ALWAYS be fine and you will NEVER suffer any physical complications from it. You fears are all unfounded &#8211; this is the <strong>FACT</strong>. Convince yourself on this! You don&#8217;t need to fear having anxiety attack. Most people with social panic disorders have issues regarding their self-image and individuality. Most often these manifest as a tendency to avoid confrontations and play a ********** role, even when it make them unhappy to do so. The &#8220;nice guy&#8221; who always does anything his social group asks of him as a &#8220;favor&#8221; is a classic example of this behavior. Even if he really doesn&#8217;t want to run the errand, he is afraid of being rejected and begins to panic just thinking about it, and so does what was asked of him.<br/><br/>The practice of interpersonal therapy to treat panic disorders is common nowadays. The most important thing is to teach the person to be more assertive and express their true needs and feelings in a comfortable way. Always being ********** to others wants can easily lead to a loss of self-esteem and depression as you see your own worth and needs as being less than those around you.<br/><br/>There are ways to be assertive without being aggressive, fortunately. Learning to be assertive means learning to place your own needs above those of others. It means learning to say &#8220;No&#8221; without having a panic attack. Aggressive behavior tends to result from a lack of assertiveness, which causes the aggressive person to lash out at those around them. But most of the time, people who aren&#8217;t assertive simply let everyone around them have their way, regardless of their own feelings on what they want.<br/><br/>When going into interpersonal therapy to treat panic disorders, a lot of time is spent discovering how to express oneself verbally. You must learn to choose words that do not attack, manipulate, or belittle the other person. Part of the process is learning to tell people when you don&#8217;t want to do something. It is also necessary to learn when it is appropriate to assert your wants over others wants, how and when to say no, and generally just learning to communicate more effectively overall.<br/><br/>Another important part of interpersonal therapy is the time spent learning how to use neutral body language to maintain your non-submissive status without using aggressive body language. For instance, looking the other person in the eye when telling them something can mean the difference between being ********** and not **********. You will be amazed at how much different your use of body language can make both you and others feel about you.<br/><br/>Most <a href="http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/anxiety-treatments/treatments-for-panic-attacks.html">panic attacks</a> are caused by panic disorders, which are in turn caused by ongoing anxiety. If you are the type of person that always gives in, is always submissive, then you are probably living in a state of constant anxiety that you will be asked to do something you really don&#8217;t want to do. This can easily lead to simply isolating oneself from the group, in an attempt to avoid those situations. This is not good for you, and can lead to depression in addition to the panic and anxiety disorders.<br/><br/>The most important thing you can learn by going through interpersonal therapy to treat your panic disorder is simply that you have the right to your own feelings. It may even lead to loss of family, friends and more importantly your job. There are medications and therapies which will aid panic attacks though. However, there are a lot of ways to overcome panic attacks and see them off or keep it under control.<br/><br/>Physical reactions are caused by panic attacks. Medications and therapies only help controlling these reactions but not fully curing them. It can go to the extent of stabilizing your body but it mostly depends on the person to cope up with such attacks when it strikes. A psychiatrist can help in a great way to revive back to normalcy. He may even advice you on the medication before any treatment.<br/><br/>Mostly, anti-depressants and anti anxiety medication are prescribed for panic attacks on the body. Beta blockers can be used to treat symptoms, mainly physical, associated with the anxiety attacks. You tend to focus more on the psychological portion of the fear and anxiety by helping yourself physically. Tricyclic, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, benzodiazepines and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or the SSRIs are anti-depressants that can aid symptoms of anxiety disorders. Many a time, anxiety leads to depression and unwanted worry. These medications, however, help you bring some lost relief. Apparently, benzodiazepines help to reduce panic attacks surprisingly up to 80%. Your palms are clammy, there is tightness in your chest and you cannot breathe properly. “Am I having a heart attack?”, you say to yourself. Scary thoughts are racing through your mind and more you think about what is going on the more your fear grows.<br/><br/>If you have every suffered these frightening feelings then you may have had a panic attack. In the US, 3 to 6 million people will have some type of panic attack during their lifetime and many of these people suffer <a href="http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/anxiety-treatments/treatments-for-panic-attacks.html">panic attacks</a> on a regular basis. A panic attack can happen suddenly with no warning, anywhere, anytime – at work, home, even when a person is asleep.<br/><br/>A panic attack is an event in which the body&#8217;s &#8220;fight or flight&#8221; response is set off, often with no obvious stimulus or reason.<br/><br/>Why it Happens<br/><br/>Everyone experiences stress and for most people they are able to cope with it. However, for some people, the stress builds up in their body and a panic attack ensures. For many sufferers, the experience of the panic attack is so frightening that they begin to become afraid of another panic attack occurring, which raises the sufferers stress levels – and the panic attack cycle continues.<br/><br/>Panic attacks are considered by psychologists and psychiatrists as a potentially disabling but treatable condition.<br/><br/>Drug Treatments<br/><br/>There are a number of different ways that panic attacks can be treated. Medications are probably the most used intervention, with doctors usually prescribing antidepressants such as Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac.<br/><br/>Psychological Treatments<br/><br/>As far as psychological interventions is concerned, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is considered to be very effective in treating panic attacks. When undergoing CBT, patients are taught to recognize the thinking patterns that heighten their anxiety and stress. Therapy should be a long term process and if you take it seriously you are likely to see some great results. A combination of both approaches &#8211; medication and CBT &#8211; is often considered to be one of more the effective methods.<br/><br/>Programs from Former Panic Attack Sufferers<br/><br/>Not everyone however, finds that traditional treatments are the best method for treating their panic attacks. After being crippled with their problems and failing with drug treatments, several former sufferers of panic attacks have found ways to overcome their attacks without medications and have began to teach other people what they have learned. Typically, these courses are in the form of home study programs which people can use at home and incorporate in to their daily lives. The main advantage of these programs is that they are made by former sufferers of panic attacks and makes users feel like they are not alone with their symptoms and that someone finally understands what they are going through.<br/><br/>While panic attacks are a frightening experience, the key thing to know is that you are not alone and that they are a treatable. Generally, people suffering from panic attacks are usually prescribed with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) like Zoloft; Prozac is also prescribed for depression related to panic attacks. Other medications include Valium and Xanax for fast relief of symptoms and short term use. Under any circumstances, never use any medication without proper prescriptions from your attending physicians.<br/><br/>The next generally used and effective method of treatment is psychotherapy. Cognitive behaviour therapy is commonly performed and conducted by psychologists or psychiatrists; they guide patients in uncovering what triggers panic attacks and teach them how to deal with it. Part of this therapy is deep breathing and relaxation techniques that help patients in easing the symptoms when panic attack occurs. However, most psychologists recommend cognitive behavioural therapy in combination with medication in order to achieve successful treatment.<br/><br/>In today’s world, a lot of new techniques and methods are being developed to completely treat panic attacks; and the most popular and effective innovation to treat this mental disorder is the Linden Method. This is a drug-free method of treating panic attacks and highly recommended and used by many psychologists. Another new method is Panic Away system which has high success rate in completely eliminating panic attacks without the use of medications. You will be able to stop the attack in its tracks and you will feel a lot better. However your need to learn to master these techniques, there is no instant anxiety relief, you need a few days at least to reduce the levels of anxiety.<br/><br/><strong>Stopping Your Panic Attacks &#8211; Third Step!</strong><br/><br/>And last but not least the third step is to accept how feel and stop worrying about it, instead take action and fight to overcome it. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Identifying the triggers that cause the attacks is one way on the road to recovery<br/><br/>When someone suffers from <a href="http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/anxiety-treatments/treatments-for-panic-attacks.html">panic attacks</a>, it takes over their entire body and their mind even as they try and regain control of themselves. Their attacks can range from once a day to multiple times and can be quite severe. The severity of the illness determines what type of treatment a person will end up receiving.<br/><br/>Panic attacks are not only emotional but physical as well. The attacks begin with a mental image or trigger that can produce symptoms, both psychological and physical, leaving the person completely vulnerable to all the problems associated with panic disorder.<br/><br/>When the attack begins, the person&#8217;s heart will race, they sweat, feel nervous and have severe anxiety. When these symptoms occur, often times, the person is unable to move and when they do&#8230; it is often erratic.<br/><br/>Panic attacks keep people from enjoying life and doing any part of their daily routine. Should an attack occur before any appointments, it is probable that the person would be able to keep such appointment. Sometimes the symptoms will not subside for days, weeks and years and then the person will return back to a normal state.<br/><br/>How panic attacks occur can be different for each person and their level of intensity is quite different too. Depending on the condition and the triggers, anxiety attacks could happen everyday, once a month or even once a year.<br/><br/>No doubt if a person has more than one trigger or even three, four or more triggers than it is possible that attacks will more frequent. Sufferers should try and keep up with their triggers to either avoid them or face them head on.<br/><br/>But the coping skills that are available are typically used for those who keep track with their symptoms. For many others, it will not work when they are put into a stressful position. The symptom may be so severe that coping techniques will not respond well, if at all. Sometimes, a trigger cannot be avoid although it is one option that can be used.<br/><br/>In reality, some sufferers have triggers that must be faced head on all the time. Two common triggers are fear and anxiety in the attacks. It is this fear and anxiety that typically results from an object or event of some sort.<br/><br/>Example: A bridge! How many people are afraid of heights and do not like to be on bridges? Bridges can be safe as long as they are maintained. Things like the Minnesota Bridge collapse are not that common but it things like that that will scare people who already have a fear of bridges. This can send them into a complete panic, lasting for a bit of time or until the vehicle clears the bridge.<br/><br/>For others, it could be speaking in public that sets of the anxiety attack. It is possibly that a combination of triggers will set of the attack too.<br/><br/>Examples: For those who may be terrified of heights and enclosed spaces, they will avoid elevators like they are the plague.<br/><br/>Oddly enough, some people did not even need a trigger to experience distress. One day the person is fine, the next complete attack. The body is responding as if it had been in some kind of fearful situation.<br/><br/>To help with all the symptoms, the use of medication is good along with talk therapy. The medication can help with relaxation and prevent the physical symptoms. The word has been derived from Japanese pronunciation of 2 Chinese characters “Rei” which means spirit or soul, and “Ki” which means life energy or life force. This beliefs comes from their doctors and psychologists who tells them that there are no such thing as panic attacks cure.<br/><br/>These medical professional tells you to learn to live with panic attacks. They teach you &#8220;coping technique&#8221;, &#8220;breathing exercises&#8221; and ask you to change your life style to suit your anxiety. They give you medication to subdue your panic attacks. No one question their methods because they are medical professional &#8211; its all &#8220;medically proven&#8221;.<br/><br/>Don&#8217;t get me wrong, I am not condemning these medical professionals. Some of them do an excellent job in helping people, but the fact remains that there&#8217;s still a lot people out there who do not respond well to their treatment methods and are still suffering from panic attacks.<br/><br/><strong>People need an alternative! They don&#8217;t need to be stuck taking medicine forever or even have this beliefs that they are &#8220;incurable&#8221;.</strong><br/><br/>Panic attacks is NOT incurable. Its not even a mental illness. Somehow along the way, your &#8220;panic alarm&#8221; gets messed up. It goes off for no reason even though your not in any danger &#8211; this is panic attack!<br/><br/>So&#8230; can you cure panic attacks? <strong>YES!</strong> You just have to learn how to fixed this &#8220;panic alarm&#8221;, its that simple! Does this sound incurable? Obviously NOT!<br/><br/>The KEY thing to take note is fear. What&#8217;s make panic attack difficult to stop? Fear. The fear of having a heart attack during panic attack. The fear of fainting during a panic attack. The fear that you might actually die from a panic attack. The cure to panic attacks is to stop this irrational fear.<br/><br/>Your heart is pounding madly and your chest hurts, you think its a heart attack&#8230;but <strong>ITS NOT!</strong> This sort of heart activity is usually reserved for vigorous activity (for example:exercising), when you don&#8217;t notice it as much. Its suppose to feel this way when your in &#8220;panic mode&#8221;.<br/><br/>You feel dizzy and weak, you think your going to faint soon&#8230;but <strong>YOUR NOT!</strong> This sensation is caused by hyperventilation &#8211; when your breathing too fast and taking in too much oxygen. Having too much oxygen in your blood will disrupt its normal flow, your brain automatically restrict blood flow to balance out the low carbon dioxide levels &#8211; resulting in light-headedness.<br/><br/>As you can see, every symptom your experiencing is caused by the body. Your not stuck with some &#8220;mysterious illness&#8221;. Furthermore, your body CANNOT kill itself and that&#8217;s why you having nothing to fear. It is quite unfortunate that though the two conditions go together they do not work for the same kind of medication. Luckily, doctors do have a separate list of medicines that are useful for both these symptoms at the same time. Zoloft and Paxil are two medications that work better for anxiety depression. The brand named drugs and the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors work pretty well for both.<br/><br/>SSRI’s list of depression anxiety medications has been proven clinically to help solve many a number of conditions. They block what is called the neurotransmitter serotonin in getting reabsorbed by certain type of cells present in the brain. This leaves serotonin in larger quantities in the brain. This neurotransmitter is linked with both depression and anxiety.<br/><br/>Drugs that are classified as SSRI’s<br/><br/>Lots of well known brands of depression anxiety medications are now available in the market. Lexapro, Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil are a few of the common names.<br/><br/>Forms of anxiety that can be treated by SSRI’s<br/><br/>The SSRI’s are quite capable of treating anxiety disorders. All antidepressants do not treat them as well as the SSRI’s do. Medications of anxiety depression like Celexa, Paxil and Luvox are been proved as useful in being able to treat the whole spectrum of disorders of anxiety inclusive of generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety and post traumatic disorder of stress.<br/><br/>Time taken to work<br/><br/>Anti depressants take quite some time to work unlike the anti anxiety medications which work in a few hours after they are taken. The anti depressants may take some days or even several weeks for the full effect of it to be felt. It is important for the patients to follow the instructions well if they are taking these depression anxiety medications. Dosage is the most important.<br/><br/>Side effects<br/><br/>These medicines may be very useful, but the do come out with a lot of side effects. They are however considered safer than many anti depressants. Over dose of these wil nto cause danger.<br/><br/>Some of the side effects include:<br/><br/>1. upset stomach<br/><br/>2. sexual desire is reduced<br/><br/>3. you may get headache<br/><br/>4. drowsiness, insomnia, restlessness and agitation<br/><br/>5. gaining weight<br/><br/>6. serotonin syndrome – very rare side effect. It can however be life threatening. It is caused due to high amounts of serotonin in the brain. SSRI’s and other medications are not prescribed together for this reason only. When supplements like St.John’s wort is taken with SSRI’s it may cause problems. Symptoms that you need to keep an eye on include hallucinations, seizures, increased heart rate, fever and change in blood pressure.<br/><br/>Depression anxiety medications in the class of SSRI’s have been useful. When a negative thought pops into your head replace it with a neutral thought instead. 96% of worries never happen. Be open to the idea that there will most likely be a positive outcome to any given worry. Teach your mind to observe the good things that are happening now in your life, instead of dwelling on bad things that have happened in your past or could possibly happen in the future. Live for the moment, not the past or future.<br/><br/>Neutral thinking can be of considerable benefit to anxiety sufferers. The aim of neutral thinking is to provide your mind with realistic alternatives to negative thoughts. So, for example, instead of saying to yourself &#8220;I&#8217;m an idiot&#8221; you would turn this into something neutral, like: &#8220;I am a very bright person, but we all make mistakes&#8221;; the point is to replace every negative thought with a neutral thought. The neutral thought must be something which your mind can accept; in other words it must be realistic; so, for example, if you are having a truly awful day you wouldn&#8217;t say to yourself &#8220;I&#8217;m having a great day&#8221; because your mind simply won&#8217;t believe it; but if you are having a truly awful day and you say something like &#8220;I&#8217;m okay, everything is fine&#8221; this is neutral enough for your mind to accept.<br/><br/>It takes time to retrain your mind and the negative thoughts will come back from time to time but be persistent. The more persistent you are the less recurring negative thoughts you will have. Each week will get easier if you monitor your thoughts and replace any negative thought with a neutral one. Repetition is the key to training any new habit and re-conditioning your mind. Whenever a negative thought pops into your head replace it with a neutral thought. More often than not you will start to feel much better within a week or two; you will also feel much more able to carry on with life than you were when you were overcome with fears. One of the most exciting things about training any new habit is that with practise it gets easier.<br/><br/>When you find that you are worrying less I hope you will realise that worry does not assist you to make better decisions. That is because worry is an emotion. Emotion is not rational it does not help you to see things more clearly or logically. Decisions should not be based on emotion. Rather, decisions should be based on logical, rational, decision-making. It can be very hard to think logically when you are very emotional about something. The situation is made worse by the fact that when we are afraid of something we tend to find evidence to confirm our fear.<br/><br/>You will likely encounter both ups and downs along the road to recovery. To handle the &#8220;downs&#8221; observe them, take note of them, and be aware that they will soon come to pass. Stick with it, and take one step at a time. Remember inch by inch is a synch. Down-times are natural, as are changes in mood. It may be due to small reasons like failing an important task, concerned about some harm that may befall them or also may be due to fear of animals. For quite some people, normal fear persists and paralyses them and full blown anxieties become a part and parcel of life.<br/><br/>If you understand what a person feels when he or she gets anxious and also know what can be done to help them it will make them feel much better. It is also needed that you make the person realize that they need to go in for an effective treatment to make their life better.<br/><br/>Anxiety attacks are quite similar to the physical or the mental reactions that get to you when you are into a fight or in a flight. The body reacts to the threat that the mind perceives. The threat that is perceived is that which differentiates a normal attack from an abnormal situation. Sometimes the danger may be ordinary in the case of disorders of anxiety, but it may not be the case always. What actually happens is the threat that is perceived is not actually present or probably the reaction is not in proportion with the situation.<br/><br/>In most of the cases, anxiety attacks take place very intensely and occur at a very fast rate. A few of the characteristics are:<br/><br/>1. deep feeling of danger and fear<br/><br/>2. trembling, chest pain, sweating, other physical symptoms, heart palpitations<br/><br/>3. a surreal atmosphere or a feel of depersonalization<br/><br/>4. fear of death and a powerful sense of doom<br/><br/>5. lack if breath<br/><br/>6. chills or hot flashes<br/><br/>An unfortunate thing regarding these anxiety attacks is that the symptoms of this problem very often mimic various other health conditions which may be very serious. A false diagnosis is quite common in this case. The fear of approaching death is fuelled. The people affected by these anxiety attacks are often treated with a combination of therapy and medications to assist them in regaining the control of their life, when the attacks are diagnosed properly.<br/><br/>Anxiety attacks may repeat themselves or may even occur only once in your life. If the former is your case, it is advised always and at almost all times that it is a more serious sign of anxiety disorder.<br/><br/>Anxiety attacks are a serious sign of fear. Sometimes they are normal reactions to a very serious situation, or probably they are got out of irrational fear. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The three primary methods of treating panic disorders are behavioral therapies, cognitive therapies, and use of medication.<br/><br/>The behavioral therapy focuses on teaching people with panic disorders to encourage themselves to approach a situation known to create a panic attack. The cognitive therapy helps people control their thought patterns as a means of getting rid of anxiety that is the major cause of <a href="http://www.treatment-for-anxiety.org/anxiety-treatments/treatments-for-panic-attacks.html">panic attacks</a>.<br/><br/>In both behavioral and cognitive therapies, medication can be taken to help you along the way, but they are not an absolute necessity. Studies related to the effectiveness of medication are ongoing.<br/><br/>When is Medication Required?<br/><br/>Medications are rarely recommended to treat panic attacks. Research has revealed that medication should never be used as the only way of treating panic disorders. Drugs can be prescribed only in addition to cognitive and behavioral treatments. If possible, medication should not be used at all, unless the case is extreme.<br/><br/>In extreme cases, medication is required to help the patients make any progress. Drugs are prescribed only if:<br/><br/>Panic disorder is complicated with agoraphobia and the patient cannot bring himself or herself to face any situation in real life that will help him or her to overcome panic attacks.<br/><br/>Patients experience prolonged panic attacks or suffer from panic and anxiety regularly.<br/><br/>Panic disorder is accompanied by depression.<br/><br/>Panic attacks create dangerous situations; for example, the occurence of a panic attack while the patient is driving.<br/><br/>Panic attacks can happen anywhere and anytime although they are not actually related to any situation or event. Panic disorders are commonly accompanied by complex anxiety disorders, such as depression or agoraphobia; so you have to take care of not just the panic attack, but the overall problem.<br/><br/>Best Drugs for Panic Attacks<br/><br/>Studies have shown certain drugs to be effective in the treatment of panic attacks.<br/><br/>SSI Anti-depressants<br/><br/>These drugs balance the serotonin produced by the brain, which in turn reduces anxiety. Anti-depressants usually work well in case of panic disorders for a variety of reasons. Chief among those reasons is the fact that anti-depressants are not addictive.<br/><br/>Benzodiazepines<br/><br/>This popular category of drugs are effective tranquilizers. They work fast but they can become addictive.<br/><br/>Tricyclic Anti-depressants<br/><br/>This medication does not lead to addiction and can help patients deal with depression too. However, they can have major side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision.<br/><br/>Every day, studies on the treatment of panic disorders add something new to the existing body of knowledge. Your doctor will prescribe only those medicines that absolutely essential to help you banish panic disorders.
