Panic Attacks Symptoms – What Really Happens During An Attack

When someone suffers a panic attack, they may not realize they are suffering from it. Many people react with different emotions from anxiety related situations. Many of these same people do not understand the symptoms behind this disorder. For each person, there several ways a panic attack manifests itself.

Psychological and physical symptoms are typical experiences behind the disorder. How a person shows their symptoms can vary from some to all.

Panic attacks begin from the psychological symptoms. When the person goes into the anxiety state, they start to think and feel certain ways. They start off by worrying; have fears, dread and overall anxiety about a certain situations.

Sometimes, they feel as if they will die due to a fear of the situation. Sometimes, the panic attack can paralyze someone from thinking, pausing them in their steps. The fear is so strong it overwhelms the person into reacting into a physical state beyond the psychological state.

Part of the reason people begin feeling the physical symptoms and signs is that the panic attacks go throughout the body which want it to either fight or flight. If a person is faced with a panic induced situation, the body wants to fight to overcome it or flee from the bad place. This is the part that is psychological. From the symptoms of panic attacks make it anxiety worse, possibly even bigger than it should be.

Example: Think of yourself in a major car accident. You are seriously injured and have to recover in a hospital and take time off of work to heal. Yet, you heal and get better. But…you are afraid to be in a car or perhaps behind the wheel. Afraid the accident may occur once again. You see the accident occurring time and again and it makes you feel out of control. This is a panic attack.

However, if it seems this not possible, then seeking medical help is necessary so the attacks do not get worse and interrupt the person’s life completely. By learning coping techniques and working with the doctor, it is possible to eliminate the attacks and live life again.

  2. Well the whole thing behind panic attacks is the impending feeling of doom. When you’re by yourself it is a little harder. When I am with somebody I usually have them tell me to breathe and breath with me. My fiance holds me with his chest on my back and I can feel his breathing and heartbeat.

You just want to will yourself to calm down. It has to do with your breathing alot. Make yourself breath through your knows in calm deep breathes. Think of something that makes you happy, something that makes you smile.

  4. Oh, do I have an answer for you! I just got home from work cause I JUST had a severe panic attack 3 hrs ago. The ambulance was called and everything. I have "Panic Disorder" and actually saw a counselor and was on Zoloft to help calm them. Here is what I found out through counseling that really helps me during an attack: Of course you feel like your gonna die and can’t breathe and you wanna flee from wherever you are but here’s what you do; Talk yourself through it. You feel goofy but you need to tell yourself "I’m NOT dying" "I AM breathing" (even though you say "I can’t breathe", but you have to be breathing or you’d be dead, right?) Just use common sense through one, you’re alive, you Can breathe, the tingling feeling in your limbs and face (if you get that) is just from the blood flow and will return to normal, and the people who are around at the time, care about what your going through and doesn’t judge you, they’re concerned. I am a store manager and just had one in front of 3 customers and a co-worker, but I’m here safe and sound about to go to sleep cause those suckers take alot of energy to have. Good luck!!

  6. If you have ever had a panic attack, you know just how debilitating they can be. Your heart races, you sweat, you tremble, and you often have the feeling like you are about to die. Learning how to stop panic attacks before they get out of hand is key to living a happy and stress free life. The first thing you can do if you feel a panic attack creeping up on you is to try and learn to control your breathing. This can be very difficult to do when you are in panic mode, but it can be a great help. Train your body to know the first signs of a panic attack and then take some time to sit down, and control your breathing. When you focus on your breathing in this way, you can take your mind off the reason you are having a panic attack, and it will not happen. Another great method you can use to stop panic attacks is to learn when it is happening, and then immediately pick something up and focus all of your attention on it. Start to describe the object to yourself. Tell yourself how it looks, feels, what color it is, etc. Alternatively, you can get into knitting. Knitting requires all of your attention and with all of the soft yarns available it will feel great in your hands as well. There are many things you can do to trick your mind out of having a panic attack. The Panic Away system has been designed to do just that and it does a great job. When you are able to stop panic attacks before they start, you will never have to worry about being in a social situation where you are panicking ever again. Photo Credit: ate steiner
