ANXIETY MANAGEMENT
Anxiety is a normal state of reaction towards stress. In order to manage anxiety, you must first assess your behavior. If you find out that your anxiety symptoms are unnecessary or that your anxiety is causing problems, you need to make some changes.
Anxiety management is a very easy process. At first, a good physical workout, even steady walking, helps to manage anxiety, as exercises produce endorphins that help to calm you.
Doctors stress that a good diet is particularly important in anxiety management. Both alcohol and drugs can increase the effects of anxiety. Therefore, it is important to cut back on things like caffeine and alcohol. Sweets can also cause anxiety levels to increase.
Another step in anxiety management is deep breathing. This helps to oxygenate the blood, thereby instantly reducing anxiety.
Meditation is also very useful in managing anxiety. A quiet, restful place is ideal for meditation. Sit comfortably with the lights off and close your eyes. Concentrate on one thing, such as your breathing.
One of the most effective methods of anxiety management is cognitive redirection. This simply means to change your way of thinking. People who suffer from anxiety often have anxious thoughts purely out of habit. The anxious thoughts become a thinking pattern that has developed over time. In order to change your anxious thoughts, you must catch yourself mid-thought and replace negative thoughts with more positive ones.
When looking to manage anxiety, try several different methods to see which one works best for you. If one of the above methods does not work for you or the symptoms are too severe, you need to seek professional help. Look for a mental health professional such as a psychiatrist, psychologist or licensed clinical social worker. No matter how long you have suffered from anxiety, there is help out there to manage it.
