In my opinion, the best way to stop future anxiety attacks is to give people the ability to immediately stop fearing another panic attack. It is very simple yet amazingly effective. Here is how it works:

After a person experiences a panic attack for the first time, the experience can be so impacting that it leaves a strong imprint on the persons psyche. This mental imprint generates a cycle or loop of anxiety whereby the person develops an unhealthy fear of having another panic attack. People can spend anywhere from months to years caught in this repetitive cycle of anxiety.

By following this process, it can allow that person to break the cycle of anxiety and return to normal everyday living.

The really unique element of the technique, is that there is no need for you to regress into your past and find out why you had your initial panic attack in order to get results. All that is needed is your willingness to break out of the anxiety cycle.

Treatments For Anxiety And Related Disorders

The treatments for anxiety and associated disorders are nearly as varied as the range of people who can be helped by them. For this article we will acknowledge there exists many cases in which one or more prescription medications may be deemed necessary by the overseeing doctor to control anxiety and other mental disorders, often to achieve enough of a stabilizing of the moods and emotions to begin other more interactive therapies. There will be a moderator with the group, and they are typically `first name anonymous’, so everyone can feel comfortable expressing themselves. If more than one problem is presenting itself, such as alcohol abuse along with chronic anxiety, there may need to be more than one type of meeting attended regularly to achieve the best results.

Exercise, especially that which gets you out of the house, is an excellent way to help your recovery along. Walk with a friend, or bring a walkman with upbeat music, or tapes that are applicable to your recovery.

As you regain an adequate level of trust and safety in your life, it may be a great time to give some energy to helping those in need. Yes, you, who have been so helpless and hopeless, may now be ready to assist someone else in their need. Read books to children in the hospital or give an afternoon to assembling food boxes at an outreach.

Ask your local animal shelter what you can do for them. A quick search on the computer, or a phone call to an organization that interests you will produce many opportunities for you to choose from. This `service therapy’ encompasses so many beneficial aspects: You will be getting out of the house, meeting new people, and relearning your personal value. It is so gratifying, and will cause quantum leaps in your recovery.

Take up, or revisit a hobby, something you really enjoy, and again, if it is outside, all the better. Kite flying can be a very inexpensive way to have some fun, get some exercise, and quite literally spend some time `looking up’!

Make your home your sanctuary, bring in color, music, candles, and light. If watching the news triggers anxiety, leave it off for this healing season in your life. Eat well, and get the rest you need. Be kind to yourself, it took a long time to become as anxious and possibly depressed as you were, and now it will take some time to fully recover, but it will happen, and with all that you have learned through your healing process, you can look forward to never again feeling that depth of terror and sadness again.

Treating Severe Anxiety

When I admitted to myself that I was suffering from the symptoms of anxiety panic attacks and went in to the doctor to seek professional help, I believed that the struggle was almost over. I  believed that the treatment of anxiety would be a simple and straightforward thing. I could go in, get some medicine, and start to get better. Little did I realize that it was not that simple. As a matter of fact, I was not even half way there. There are many treatments for anxiety, and some of them appear to be miracle cures, but the people selling them are pretty deceptive. Anyone who tells you the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder is easy is deceiving you. In fact, it is a difficult, involved process.

The treatment of mood disorders is always difficult. You see, it requires several different stages. If you suffer from severe anxiety as I did, the first stage is to get your symptoms under control. The First stage is all I thought there was to the treatment of anxiety – the administering of medication. Basically, the doctor gave me some sedatives and an antidepressant that would help treat my anxiety. This would somewhat alleviate my symptoms and get me into a space where I could be responsive to therapy. Therapy, however, was much more involved.

I had wanted the treatment of anxiety to end with pills, but I understood why it didn’t. You see, treating anxiety with medication helps you suppress the symptoms, but it does not address the underlying causes. Most anxiety panic disorders stem from some psychological factor. There was something about me that was making me have severe anxiety attacks, and it was important to get to the root of it. In the meantime, the doctor could treat my symptoms so that I could approach the problem rationally, but if treating the outside symptoms was all he did, I would have to be on sedatives forever. Eventually, whatever it was that was causing the anxiety would find another way to rear its ugly head.

Fortunately, the treatment of anxiety didn’t only consist of therapy. There were a lot of other practical steps that I could take to help treat my anxiety, steps that were immediately effective. Through exercise, meditation, and maintaining a healthy social life, I could keep my anxiety at bay on a daily basis. It would still come out periodically, but if I didn’t let myself shut down I could keep the upper hand. I am still undergoing my treatment of anxiety, but it is better than it has been in years.

Once the medication kicks in, the person is able to explore other options besides medicine therapy. Sometimes these options can let the person stop talking the medicine altogether.

2. Therapy – A good therapy to use is psychological therapy. When outward caused anxiety takes place, this is usually the best form of treatment. Should the initial problem be weeded out, a “cure” is possible. With those who experience a chemical imbalance or perhaps genetic cause, therapy is still a good treatment option. Anxiety sufferers can develop tools needed to grasp balance when something does happen.

3. Alternative therapy – This can be anything from herbal remedies to meditation. These have also proven themselves in many cases so long as the initial cause was not severe. This treatment type relies on the patient and the treatment used.
