It’s not just the risk of osteoporosis that makes menopause quite the irksome adventure, it’s also all the different symptoms that go along with it. Even though not every menopausal woman will experience the same physical or psychological problems, it is important that you are aware of the most common symptoms. The reason is because you may be suffering from a symptom but are not relating it to menopause.

For instance, many menopausal women who suffer from dizziness have no idea that this is a common symptom of their condition. Dizziness may be directly related to menopause due to changes in the body. For instance, due to lower estrogen levels, changes occur in the blood vessels within the nervous system which can result in dizziness. Furthermore, hot flashes, night sweats and migraine headaches are other menopausal symptoms that can lead to dizziness and vertigo.

Dizziness could also be indirectly related to menopause by being a side effect of medications you are taking to treat other symptoms such as hormone replacement therapy.

Despite the cause of your menopausal dizziness, this symptom can be irritating, and in some cases dangerous. Imagine what could happen if a woman, who suffers frequent dizzy spells, becomes dizzy while driving a vehicle, riding a bike, crossing a street or walking down the stairs. This could result in an accident with possible, serious consequences. In addition, a severe case of dizziness may lead to vertigo.

Vertigo is a serious condition that can cause headaches, dizziness, a spinning sensation, imbalance and falling. Vertigo is often followed by nausea and sometimes vomiting. The condition is made worse with motion. Vertigo occurs when otoliths (calcium carbonate particles) are misplaced in the inner ear’s semicircular canals.

Excessive dizziness and incidences of vertigo should be brought to your doctor’s attention. Your health care provider can examine and diagnose your condition, and provide you with treatment options to help with your symptoms.

That being said, some common ways to treat menopausal dizziness include:

Eating – Most women are constantly on the go and fail to provide their body with the energy and nutrients it needs. Many women do not eat a proper breakfast, nor do they have snacks when they are hungry. Furthermore, they drink too many dehydrating fluids such as coffee, tea and soda, and not enough water to help their body stay hydrated. During menopause, your body is going through too many hormonal changes and cannot handle a poor diet.

Therefore, if you are experiencing dizziness, try improving your diet and eat foods with protein, and natural energy such as fruit. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day!

Relax – Stress leads to many negative emotional side affects including depression, anxiety and headaches. You can reduce the stress you feel by engaging in meditation and exercises that promote deep breathing such as Yoga and Pilates. Furthermore, getting a good night sleep can also help with dizziness.

Herbal treatment – A popular herbal remedy is inhaling lavender oil from a cloth. This treatment has been used for centuries to treat swooning (lightheadedness). As an extra bonus, it smells wonderful.

Note: Talk to your doctor before treating your dizzy spells with herbal remedies or over-the-counter medications.

Always remember that while dizziness is a common symptom of menopause, excessive dizziness may be a sign of something far more serious than menopause such as a brain tumor. Thus, before you brush your dizzy symptoms aside, take the time to seek the opinion of your doctor.

There are many kinds of stress, but professional stress, or that stress that is related to your job or profession is of a very special type.

If professional stress is not managed, and allowed to remain to torment you, it easily deserves its name, “the silent killer”

Below find all you need to know on how to manage professional stress.

Professional Stress

Professional stress is the stress that occurs within the workplace, or while performing professional activity, and is nothing more than a person’s physio-psychological response to various stimuli that sets off our inbreed fight-or-flight reaction.

The stimuli can be caused by one’s superiors, co-workers, tasks, workplace environmental factors, and a host of other conditions.

These stimuli give rise to stress and this stress, if constant, can and will affect ones immune system, mental health, and overall physical well-being.

How Professional Stress Affects Us

In its basic form, stress and the fight-or-flight reaction is meant to protect us.

It causes physical reactions, such as the endocrine glands secreting hormones and enzymes to prepare our bodies for combat or a quick removal from the stress stimuli.

Once resolved (either through a fight or flight), our bodies return to normal.

In the workplace, where these stimuli are constant, our bodies are continually in a state of stress.

It is now a well accepted fact that this kind of stress is one of the greatest causes of all illness.

This stress is responsible for both stroke and heart attack; it daily destroys the immune system, in lighter forms cause’s migraine headaches, eczema, complications in pregnancy, and high susceptibility to any infectious disease.

Professional Stress Management

These are the techniques designed to give a person effective mechanisms for coping and dealing with professional stress.

The first step is to identify the stressor.

If it is a boss, a co-worker, environmental factors, whatever it is, it must first be identified if it is to be managed. It is not very difficult and some few moments of serious thought will give rise to what that stressor or stressors are.

The next step is to do a clear self-examination, away from the workplace, and when in a relaxed state.

This self-examination will eventually reveal how you react to stress, which psychologists determine as Type A or Type B. Whatever you are, you must know it, accept it, and then you can begin to manage the stress that is tormenting you.

This examination will tell you what you have to do, when you compare it to the stressor.

You may need to be more organized, change your outlook, your attitude, force yourself to relax, change your diet or other habits, develop a better sense of humor, force yourself to relax (as in meditation or massage). Whatever it is, you will understand it from your quiet analysis.

There are lots of remedies, even changing your work, or profession in the worst case. However, there are also some very good habits to develop which will reduce or eliminate the average and usual work stressors.

They are

1. Learn how and when to say, ‘no’. Remember people seldom walk on you unless you lie down first.

2. Strive to become perfectly organized

3. Reduce your anxiety by setting priorities and sticking with them.

4. If your stress is environmental, attend to eliminating it, whatever the source.

5. Learn the relaxing breathing techniques offered in any course of yoga.

6. Do not take yourself or your job too seriously.

7. Buy a stress ball, and play with it in times of stress. Imagine the stress going into the ball, and out of your body

8. Manage your time well. The more professional you are, the more you need to manage your time professionally. This will reduce unnecessary stress.

Headaches can do more than ruin your day – they can interfere with your life. There are many different types of headaches and in this article, we are going to discuss a few of them.

Migraine Headache

If you have a stable pattern of recurring headaches accompanied by nausea at least some of the time, you probably have migraine. Migraines may sometimes cause extreme nausea, vomiting and altered vision. Symptoms may include tiredness or moodiness as early as 12- 18 hours before onset of the headache.

Migraine tends to recur periodically but what really causes migraines is not well understood. Migraine headaches can do more than ruin your day – they can interfere with your life. Headaches are of different variations.

Migraine headaches are usually described as a one-sided, throbbing pain of the temple, forehead, or eye. Once the pain of a migraine sets in, it is sheer agony. How bad are your headaches? The most important symptom you will probably have with your migraine headache is pain, and as you know, the pain can be very severe and last many hours.

Migraine headache resulted from the expansion (or dilation) of blood vessels in the brain and scalp. It is possible for people to have migraine even when nobody in the family has it. Though it has been seen that migraine does run in families, it is not necessary that children of migraine patients will also have it. Stress is one of the major factors that can contribute to the onset of a migraine.

Tension headache

Tension headaches are also common in many people. Stress and anxiety are causes for tension headaches. Tension headaches often start in the middle of the day. Tension headaches usually begin slowly and gradually. Tension headaches commonly come on in the middle of the day. If you have tension headaches almost every day or over-the-counter medicines don’t help your pain, you should see a medical practitioner.

For a person who is prompt to tension headache, the moment the person gets tense about something, the person will develop a tension headache. People with tension headaches may also suffer from pain, throbbing or a sensation of tightness in the head. Contrary to popular belief, tension headache is not necessarily the result of emotional stress, but rather, like migraine, probably as a result of a neurochemical process inherent in the brain of the headache sufferer. Most tension-type headaches respond to simple analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, but some can be somewhat disabling.

Tests are not usually required to diagnose a tension headache. If you only have tension headaches occasionally, an over-the-counter (available without a prescription) pain reliever can probably help. These headaches come on slowly, and gradually increase in intensity. Some people report that their tension headaches are worse than a migraine headache.
Common Headache Treatment Options

There are a lot of treatment options presently available for your migraine and tension headaches. Some of you will get spectacular results with one or more of these treatments and others will not. Sometimes a separate visit to your physician to discuss your headaches specifically may be necessary. Migraine can be triggered in susceptible individuals by tyramine-containing foods, some food additives and sugar substitutes, as well as by skipping meals.

Selective serotonin-agonist drugs like sumatriptan have revolutionized treatment of migraines and dramatically changed the lives of millions of people. Most commonly used drugs for migraine headaches are regular analgesics available over the counter like Tylenol, Aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil). There are several natural solutions that can help you fight headaches, but the first thing you need to do is work out what sort of headaches you’re actually suffering from.

There are many natural remedies for tension headaches. These include stress and tension reduction, ice therapy (used at the base of the skull), eliminating food triggers, getting the proper amount of rest, biofeedback, headache pillows or cushions, exercise and many others. Sunglasses can often even prevent the headaches.

All treatments for migraine and tension headaches have the same treatment goals in common. They are designed to take away your headache symptoms. There is no need to endure the pain when you really have an option. Follow the tips given here and you will be amazed to find that the prevention is actually in your hands.
