Why Herbs for Adhd are Effective

When I found out my son had ADHD I had a decision to make. Should he be treated with prescription medicines or natural remedies using ADHD herbs. What I found was that there has been a steady increase in doctors prescribing these medications, which in turn increased the awareness of the risks involved with them.

I also learned that production of these drugs has increased a whopping 500 percent since 1992 and most of the prescriptions were from pediatricians. These statistics bring up a very important point. Are we too quick to medicate our children? That’s why I believe it’s being responsible to your child to try natural remedies such as herbs for ADHD first.

The reason these drugs are prescribed is because they act as a stimulant to the brain. I know what you’re thinking! Stimulants for a child already hyperactive? The stimulants actually help them to focus and become more attentive. There are several ADHD herbs which have similar attributes, but instead stimulate the brain naturally.

Some of the herbs for ADHD remedies include:

* Brahmi- has gained world wide recognition as a memory booster, for promoting mind alertness and is widely used as an antioxidant and in improving the brain cell functions. It is used as a herbal brain tonic to rejuvenate the body and as a nerve tonic to promote the memory.

* Ginko Biloba- helps the body to increase its production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a compound that is the main source of energy at the cellular level. This beneficial activity has been shown to boost the brain’s metabolism of glucose for energy and to increase its electrical activity. Ginko’s long-term effects are permanent, which means no prolonged use.

* Gotu Kola- reduces stress and anxiety and stimulates brain function. This herb also increases circulation to the brain.

* Siberian Ginseng- which supports blood flow to the brain and peripherals. In oriental medicine, Ginseng is highly respected and prized as a natural energy tonic to support energy, circulation, natural vitality and to act as an overall systemic supporter.

* Panax Ginseng- used for centuries to help people maintain general health, increase mental clarity and in recent scientific studies to be effective for stress related problems, as well as for improving physical and mental performance, shortening reaction time and enhancing the mood.

These are all effective herbs for ADHD treatment. There are many herbal remedies out there that combine many of these ADHD herbs that will stimulate the brain as well as have a calming effect. There are also homeopathic remedies that will do the same thing. Due to the fact that many of these herbs have a similar effect to that of prescriptions, they should never be taken together. So make sure you let your child’s doctor know what you giving them at all times.

Remember that natural ADHD remedies take a little longer to see results, so give these ADHD herbs a few weeks to kick in. I did and I found an alternative treatment to be much safer than stimulant prescription drugs. It ultimately came down to this when I was deciding; it’s my child’s health.

Why You’ll Never Hear About Herbal Remedies for Insomnia From Your Doctor

With due respect to doctors, they don’t know much about herbal remedies for insomnia because they haven’t been trained in them. Doctors are pursued daily by representatives from the big drug companies who provide them with incentives such as free samples. It’s not in a doctor’s best interests to suggest natural remedies

Unfortunately it’s not just doctors, most people consider herbs for insomnia to be a second rate solution to a serious complaint. This is because the benefits of insomnia herbs are not trumpeted from the rooftops like the latest drug release. Why? Because there’s just no money in it.

This is a shame because so many people could benefit with more knowledge on herbal remedies for insomnia, but the truth is not getting out there. For instance when I ask people with sleep disorders if they would consider trying herbs for insomnia they’ll say thing like:

“I’d better wait ’till I’m on vacation before trying them.” “Um, can you buy them at the chemist?” “Isn’t that just for old people? Like aunts and that?” “Don’t you have to take them for ages before they work?” “Aren’t they supposed to be poisonous?”

The truth is if you are having trouble sleeping, herbal remedies for insomnia are as effective as chemical sleeping pills. In fact they are even better because they are non habit forming. Most herbs for insomnia are safe to take over the longer term without you having to worry about becoming addicted. Please note Valerian may be an exception as long term use may lead to depression.

Here are some safe herbs for insomnia you may not have heard about. However they have been proven to be very effective.

Nux Vomica – this is a wonderful herb for those type A personalities who tend to wake up in the middle of the night, planning all those things they have to do! Nux Vomica can really help these folk to unwind and relax.

Scutellaria laterifolia – A herbal nerve tonic for a fatigued nervous system, Scutellaria laterifolia is also a gentle sedative. It has beneficial effect on stress, nervous exhaustion, poor sleep and anxiety.

Passiflora incarnata – If you have a tendency to worry, Passiflora incarnata, commonly known as Passionflower, is recommended as a soothing antidote to insomnia.

Coffea – is a homeopathic medication and targets sleeplessness due to an over-active mind. If you’re physically restless or agitated, Coffea can help.

Herbal remedies for insomnia are safe, non addictive and can have an almost immediate effect when blended together in their recommended amounts.

However remember herbs are potent substances so either seek the advice of a professional herbalist or naturopath, or obtain your herbs already blended from a reliable source.
