The Oprah Panic Attack Show

On a special Oprah panic attack show, Jonathan and Jordan Knight were featured. They gained fame in the late 80s and early 90s in their band called New Kids On The Block (NKOTB).

What the screaming girls probably didn’t know was that the brothers in the band had demons they had to deal with. The point is, panic attacks and anxiety disorders can happen to anyone.

People need to understand this. Not the ones who are suffering, but the ones who think it’s a fake illness or who think it’s brought on by the sufferer. This is not an act. Nobody wants to be like this.

A Panic Attack On The Oprah Show

Jonathan Knight actually had a panic attack on the show. After he left NKOTB, he hid himself away and didn’t want to get out of bed. He probably had depression, which is linked to panic.

His brother Jordan also had anxiety issues. Jordan started getting books and read up on his condition. He did the right thing. By educating yourself on your condition, it plays a big part in the recovery process.

Jordan eventually found out that his father also suffered from panic attacks. There is certainly evidence to suggest that anxiety disorders can run in families and passed on.

Panic Attacks Affect Women More Than Men

Panic attacks and panic disorder with agoraphobia tend to hit women more. Women suffer from this twice as much as men, but it can be harder for a man to have this and be accepted.

People in general will take this as a weakness in a man. They probably think it should be easier for a man to ‘get over it’. It’s a bit like crying. It’s alright if a woman cries, but REAL men don’t cry.

Panic attacks are treatable. Though it causes much anguish, the situation can be dealt with with great success. Today, there are so many methods of dealing with panic.

The obvious choice is to go to a doctor, but there are other alternative therapies available to treat panic attacks successfully. The road to wellness may not be easy, but it’s certainly worth it.

I also found no harm using such vitamins to check anxieties; they work well. Few other prominent practices that are widely followed as best home remedies for anxiety are daily exercising for at least half an hour, taking bath with cold water, playing with kids, watching movies, sleeping for at least 7-8 hours, listening music, and attending religious ceremonies, etc.

Can A Panic Disorder Be Treated?

Are you are affected by a panic disorder ?

The main symptom of a panic attack or panic disorder is an overwhelming fear of something which produces uncontrollable emotions. You may feel scared, frightened or want to cry. Perhaps you feel a heaviness in your heart that feels like grief.

It is possible that you are not sure why you have these feelings and there may seem to be no reason for them.

Usually you are worried that you are not good enough or that you did not do something to satisfy someone. Sometimes it might be an event has triggered a memory where you are taken back to a previous situation where you were not “good enough”.

What ever the reason you will need to work through your feelings and get yourself back on the right path to a normal and happy lifestyle.

But can a panic disorder be treated ?

The answer to this question is “Of course”.

There has been a lot of research to help people get better when they are suffering from a panic attack.

There are several methods of treatment that is going to be most effective to you and your mental health.

One method of treatment is psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is used along with medication to help a person get over their panic disorder and gain control over their feelings. With the two of these things combined, it can make a big difference on how a person gets better.

Some people will notice an improvement within six to eight weeks. The more appropriate type of treatment is going to be able to lessen the chance of having a panic attack.

If diagnosed, you must let your health care provider or general practitioner know that you have a panic disorder. To get the most effective treatment you need to let them know what is going on in your life so that they can help you. They will then have a better idea of how they should try to help you get better .

Many people never get the treatment that they deserve because they fail to work with their health care provider. And it is crucial that people get help before it is too late.

Having the right type of panic treatment can be determined by the health care provider that you see. They will be better able to determine what you need in your life and how best to solve panic attacks.

How to Treat Agoraphobia

One of the questions we at BeOnForm are asked over and over concerns how to treat agoraphobia? It seems that there is an awful lot of information on the internet about treating all sorts of illnesses but when your search term is, how to treat agoraphobia, every search seems to produce nothing of real value.

All that is about to change though, because if you found this by typing “how to treat agoraphobia”, you are about to find out!

Agoraphobia is the progression of panic disorder and is the fear of going somewhere or doing something in case it will bring on a panic attack. It is understanding this fact, that is key to understanding how to treat agoraphobia, because it is no good treating agoraphobia without treating the causes of panic attacks first.

Panic attacks are triggered as a result of anxiety, brought on by an accumulation of past events and it is these past events, which prop everything else up. So if you asked us how to treat agoraphobia, our answer would be “treat the underlying cause first.”

So how to treat panic attacks and how to treat agoraphobia should really give you the same answer, namely “get rid of the negative programming in the subconscious mind” and that’s exactly what our therapy is all about. At BeOnForm we concentrate our efforts on modifying the underlying beliefs stored deep within the subconscious, that cause the conscious mind to create the negative anxious thoughts that trigger anxiety.

To explain this in more depth, let me explain that the subconscious brain is an awesomely powerful piece of equipment. Everything you have ever experienced, heard, seen, read, been told, felt, seen on television or even imagined is all stored away, deep within the subconscious and forms the basis of your view of the world. In reality, your world, the world you live in, is created by and coloured by what I like to call “rules,” held deep within your subconscious mind. You might think the world is a wicked place, or alternatively you might think the world is a wonderful place, it’s your view and yours alone. Your beliefs are a result of what YOU have been exposed to in the past. And it’s this exposure which creates YOUR rule books about everything; your perceptions of love, hate, friends and foes, good and bad. From external stimuli and our perceptions of reality, our thoughts are formed and our thoughts precede our actions and our emotions, good or bad, positive or negative, happy or sad, confident or anxious!

So next time you hear someone ask how to treat agoraphobia, you can tell them its all about the subconscious, perceived reality and rules created by past events!

How To Separate Panic Attack From An Anxiety Attack

Panic attack can sneak up on a person like stealth, bring on an intense and overwhelming feeling of fear and then dissipate. Those who have experienced it for the first time are at a loss to explain what they just went through and will often times be left in a “muck lather” of sweat. It’s a frightening experience simply because there is generally no warning it’s about to happen.

Panic Attack Facts

Agoraphobia can be a complication of panic attacks and is described as a fear of public places. Basically, people with agoraphobia fear having a panic attack in areas which could cause them embarrassment. This can lead to social withdrawal of crowded areas.

Will You Develop Panic Disorder?

Panic disorder can be difficult to diagnose simply because an assessment of other pre existing disorders needs to be made. Before panic disorder can be successfully diagnosed, a doctor will need to rule out other conditions.

This is no reason to continue to ignore the symptoms because unless it is established and then treated, the condition can remain chronic and only get worse. A one time panic attack episode is no reason to be concern about developing chronic panic disorder. In fact, panic attack is common; most who suffer one will have just an isolated incidence of it but continued attacks should not be ignored.

Chronic conditions can severely restrict a person’s lifestyle. Generally, a feeling of being in fear of the next attack will play on the mind which can then lead to withdrawing from certain lifestyle situations. For example, if an attack occurred in a certain place, the answer would be to avoid that place in the future.

Feelings of anticipated anxiety can pervade a person’s thoughts. Without correct diagnosis and treatment other issues could follow such as depression and abuse of certain substances such as drugs and alcohol. The correct course of action is to get help rather than withdrawing from the things you once enjoyed.

Medication As A Treatment Option

There are two types of medication used to treat panic disorder. Your doctor will decide the best course of action with you. Trycyclic antidepressants or reuptake inhibitors and Benzodiazepines may be used either individually or in conjunction with one another.

Antidepressants are effective however, they are not an immediate relief factor while benzodiazepines are fast acting but are not a long term solution as they have addictive qualities and side effects.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) has been used effectively and is a course of treatment designed to help a person eliminate damaging thought patterns and better cope with their fears.

What to Do When you Feel a Panic Attack Coming Part 3: Facing the Demon

June 27, 2009 by Cure Anxiety · Leave a Comment
Filed under: Other Anxiety Related Articles

Exposures involve voluntarily bringing on a mild to moderate level of anxiety In other words, exposures show you ways to face the demon, challenge him head on, and kill him once and for all.

There are two keys to exposures:

1. They have to be voluntary (which means that you can’t do them all the time, because you won’t always be in the mood)

2. If you imagine your anxiety from a 0-8 (with 0 being calm and 8 being a panic attack), you want to hit a 4 during any given exposure (because if you go above a 4, the anxiety might get ahead of you and no longer be voluntary and under your control).

Exposures are used to gain mastery over any phobia. They work for panic disorder because the core of panic disorder is usually phobia as well: A phobia to certain physical sensations. Whether it’s a racing heart, dizziness, nausea, a choking sensation, or a certain pain, every panic disorder patient has at least one or two physical symptoms that trigger their panic cycle. Exposures show you how to experience these sensations in such a way that you finally stop being triggered by them. After 1-2 months of exposures, most patients find that coping techniques begin to be effective (i.e. the shield actually starts working). Once patients are good at exposures, they can often use them to actually stop a panic attack that is coming on. In other words, once the demon appears, they can turn the tables on the demon, challenge it, and get it to run scared with it’s tail between it’s legs. After several months of exposures, most of my patients become completely panic free (and can usually be taken off on any panic-related medications they have started).

Exposures are at the heart of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and they are by far the most useful techniques for killing the Demon and gaining mastery over panic once and for all.

Stop Panic Attacks – How to Cure Panic Attack Disorder Without Medication

June 25, 2009 by Cure Anxiety · Leave a Comment

Having a panic attack is something that nobody likes to deal with.  The feeling of your chest tightening as if you were having a heart attack is not good for anyone.  There are actually ways that you can stop panic attacks without medication.  They don’t involve a doctor, medication or a trip to the nearest pharmacy.  I know all too well the unkind visit of a panic attack and have found personal ways that I deal with them, hopefully they will help you as well.

If you haven’t had a panic attack you can not possibly understand the cause behind them and so don’t treat that person as though they were crazy.  They probably feel that way without you telling them so.  However, if you have ever had a panic attack you understand the need to put an end to them.  Panic attacks are generally created by stress of course.  Isn’t stress the number one contributor of many things, panic attacks just being one of them?  Therefore, it is no wonder that people wish to find ways to stop panic attacks without medication as many times the medication can just cause more problems.

With stress being the number one contributor to panic attacks you need to do what is necessary to cut down on he stresses in your life.  You might think that sounds difficult to do but you just have to be dedicated to the solution and look at the bigger picture.  If you think about what it is that causes you stress it will amaze you at the number of them that can be eliminated.

Let us say that the reason you are so stressed is because of your schedule.  You have kids to run to soccer, violin practice, dinner to make and everyone in bed by nine with many other things left to do the rest of the week.  Figure out a solution, whatever it takes, because if you aren’t healthy enough to enjoy taking your kids to where they need to be then odds are you need to quit.  Find someone to help carpool, break out the crock-pot to work on a good dinner the slow way and cut back on the things that give you that, “Oh man I’m stressed,” feeling.

Taking charge of your mental state is the best way to stop panic attacks without medication.  When I feel as though something is really stressing me out, I decide if it is something I can change or not.  Of course having bills and such is always going to be stressful, it is for everybody.  But you know what?  Everybody does have them, has had them and probably will always have them.  The only difference is that some have just learned to accept that things such as bills and debt are always going to be a part of their lives and went on.

Looking at my checkbook sometimes I can just feel that pinch in my chest coming on when I see how tight things will be.  If that happens I think to myself, “will my stressing actually change the situation?”  In other words, will my stress and worry bring us any more money?  No.  All it will do is make me tired, cranky, and extremely stressed.  Therefore, I take charge and tell myself to let it go, it will not change anything.  And, that makes it a lot easier.

To stop panic attacks without medication simply means that you need to be aware of your own situation and be willing to take charge of it.  Do you really want to allow the stresses of the world to run your life?

Due to the fact that majority of persons **** to take drugs for their anxiety and panic disorder, they chose to use a reliable remedy for their disorders which doesn’t have any side effect. Most of us get anxious at times. No human being is complete if he or she doesn’t encounter panic or anxiety disorder sometimes in their existence. It is also necessary to know that anxiety attacks are of various types. Some are extreme while others are severe anxiety. Prevent or Cure a Panic Attack With Natural Treatments

April 1, 2009 by Cure Anxiety · 1 Comment
Filed under: Other Anxiety Related Articles

Your first panic attack should be a learning experience that will help you control attacks in the future. Sometimes people with a panic attack go to the emergency room thinking they are having a heart attack as the symptoms are similar and come on suddenly. You’ll feel things like sudden periods of extreme fear, anxiety, shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling, rapid heart beat, hyperventilation, tingling sensation, nausea, etc. When they learn that it was a panic attack and knowing the difference they can start taking control of their future attacks. This is important because often a panic attack will keep you from even functioning.

Panic attacks are caused by many physical, mental and emotional triggers. Genetics may play a part and females are more apt to get them than men. Allergies or sensitivities to food, drink or chemicals can trigger an attack along with memories or trauma. Alcohol and drug can also cause panic attacks and disorders. Serious and upsetting experiences along with everyday events could trigger an attack.

Panic disorder may lead to “situational avoidance,” where the sufferer feels they have to avoid every place or situation in where attack has occurred and might not even leave their house which could be a very serious disruption to a normal life.

Control subjects were less likely to have panic attacks then patients with panic disorders after both drank a high amount of caffeine, according to results of a small study by Isabella Nascimento, MD, and colleagues at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.

People who had went to a doctor for treatment told me that they were usually told they should avoid caffeine in colas, coffee, chocolate and teaI’ve talked with several people who gave me the following natural treatments they have used to cure or avoid panic attacks without using medicine.

Deep Breathing

One of the best forms of panic attack relief is to simply take deep, slow breaths to prevent hyperventilation. By getting hyperventilation under control you avoid things such as the dizziness and lightheadedness which happens because there is too much oxygen being taken to the brain at one time.

Exercise

This appears to be a one of the best ways of dealing with a panic attack once it’s started. An adrenaline rush usually accompanies an attack and the exercise can bleed it off according to people who use it.

Aroma therapy

After listening to a number of people talk about using aroma therapy to combat panic attacks it appears there are two schools of thought. The first swears by using smells that bring back pleasant memories, such as baby powder, certain flowers, farm animals or barbecuing. The others said that aromas from essential oils or candles were the best.

Meditation

This is a way that several people said helped them from having attacks or by being able to stop them once they started.

Think happy thoughts or take your mind off your problem

Others told me that once an attack started they tried to empty their mind of anything but pleasant things that they had done in the past and it appeared to help them. They also said taking your mind off the attack with things like counting backwards from one hundred was helpful.

The above ways are used by ordinary people to cure or get over a panic attack. In some cases they just can’t do it themselves and need professional help. Below is some information on several different natural methods used to cure people with panic disorders.

Getting Professional Help

Hypnosis

Diane Ulicsni, director of The Hypnosis Center in Lake Oswego, Ore., suffered from chronic panic attacks for many years. She finally found relief through hypnosis and is now a board certified hypnotherapist. She says that hypnosis — recognized by the American Medical Association since 1958 as a form of treatment — is one approach that is non-drug and can greatly ease or even cure panic attacks.

Laugh your panic attacks away?

That’s a good strategy, says Steve Sultanoff, PHD, a clinical psychologist in Irvine, Calif., and past president of the American Association for Therapeutic Humor. He uses humor visualization with his panic attack patients, telling them to imagine themselves in a situation where they’ve laughed uncontrollably. When they have a panic situation, they are able to return to the picture of themselves laughing.

Cognitive Behavorial Therapy

James D Herbert, PHD, associate professor of clinical psychology at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, says that cognitive behavioral therapy is his choice for treating panic disorders. Cognitive-behavior therapy is made up of two parts: One is to identify and modify the thinking patterns that produces anxiety (cognitive therapy), and lessening anxiety by exposing the patient to fearful scenarios (behavior therapy).

If you suffer from panic attacks try some of the treatments listed above. They have worked for people I talked with and maybe they’ll work for you too.
