Though it may be just perception, stress seems as if it’s becoming more and more prevalent. Stress is certainly a common condition in today’s society, and everyone has experienced what they would describe as stress at some point. Living in modern society requires making frequent adjustments, and there’s also the issue of dealing with the common responsibilities all people have. Sometimes the expectations of life can feel overwhelming, and can extend people beyond a comfortable point. Because the feeling of stress is typically so unpleasant, people tend to react strongly to it. Even more than reacting strongly to stress perhaps is the desire to see stressful feelings go away.

A growing number of people have become committed to using what are thought of as natural treatments for various disorders. Natural in this case is often seen as something that doesn’t originate from a pharmaceutical company, or something that organically appears in nature. Those who advocate using treatments that are sometimes referred to as natural say these sorts of treatments operate more in harmony with the human body than a treatment produced under controlled conditions; additionally, there are those who believe so-called natural treatments generally have minimal toxic effects.

The desire to go natural has also found its way into anxiety treatment. A plant known as Kava Kava is increasingly being sold and used for the treatment of an anxious condition. Kava Kava grows naturally in regions of the South Pacific, and the peoples there have been using Kava Kava for generations. Kava Kava has specifically been used over time as part of religious ceremonies, and as a cure for insomnia and muscle tension. The ingredient used for treatment is found in the root of the Kava Kava plant, and studies have suggested a correlation between this active ingredient and enhanced mood. To be specific, Kava Kava is thought to have an effect on particular brain chemicals and to have a relaxing effect.

Though on its face Kava Kava may sound like an appealing treatment for anxiety, there are reports of Kava Kava usage being linked to severe liver damage. To be fair, there isn’t conclusive evidence that small amounts of Kava Kava will cause liver damage. There are those who claim the liver damage effects sometimes coinciding with Kava Kava usage are actually the effects of other causes, such as alcoholism. Whether there is an actual link or not, the reports of Kava Kava leading to liver damage reminds us that not everything that occurs in nature is good for us. A point that’s worth being aware of is that there are various treatments for anxiety aside from Kava Kava, and many of these treatments have been proven safe and effective.

Low self-esteem is most commonly the root cause of the anxiety disorders. How you think about yourself is termed self-esteem. It is not necessarily how others perceive you. You tend to have a very low opinion your capabilities. You perceive yourself as inferior to other people. It is very sad that one is blinded to his own worth as a person. This blindness causes fear and anxiety in your mind and prevents you from having healthy interactions with other people.

Persistent anxiety colors your perception of the world and your responses to it. It makes you feel worthless and so stops you from exploring your own potential and talents. It stops you from undertaking anything new. Your fear holds you back and encourages you to feel that life is very unfair to you whereas for others it is wonderful.

One very effective treatment for this anxiety disorder is to focus on correcting your erroneous perceptions about yourself and improve your self-esteem. In this cognitive therapy, a person learns to consciously change his negative thoughts to positive ones and view himself in a better light. It changes the attitudes which keep on causing fear, worry and distress all the time in the background of your mind. It substitutes the negative thoughts by a staunch belief that “yes, I too can fulfill my dreams”. It sounds a bit trite but this thought is the very basis of a healthy and normal mind.

This Treatment employs a program of self-help which leads one into changing one’s attitudes about his own self and foster thoughts of abilities and achievements. It’s how you look at the world. If you believe it is there to stop you from succeeding, you yourself give that power to the world. If you believe it is there to fulfill your ambitions and a place to display your talents, it will prove so and spur you on to astounding achievements.

In this anxiety disorder, you will find yourself worrying about trivial imaginary problems. It is classified as “what-if” syndrome – “What will happen if I meet strangers?” “What if I have to take a new job?” “What if I have to asserting myself, etc?”… You constantly worry how to cope up with other’s reactions and resist change. Enhancing self-esteem means you will have a lot of confidence in yourself and your mind will be at peace so that you handle your life positively. This is exactly the technique which is used to overcome anxiety disorders. This technique includes the following steps to build your self-esteem:

* Learning self-talk which is positive

* Learning your best to make decisions

* Learning that you should put yourself first and accepting the fact that it is impossible to please everybody at all times.

* Learning that you never lack power

* Learning that your self-importance

* Learning about your talents and capabilities

* Learning to express your emotions and communicate your needs.

This treatment reduces or eliminates the root cause of unnecessary worries which leads to anxiety disorder. This treatment appears a little hazy to some but this step-by-step technique builds up one’s self-esteem to such a point that anxiety disorders just become non-existent. Medications have limited usage to provide temporary relief but such cognitive and behavioral therapy helps you to realize your own worth as an individual who is in no way inferior to other people. This instills such confidence in yourself that the imaginary worries disappear into thin air.
